User Research Tells: Applying Poker Psychology to Qualitative Research
This event will be both in-person and online. We'll gather at Ponce City Market at the Industrious office on the 8th floor (use the elevators by West Elm). We ask that attendees follow current COVID guidelines.
We'll also have a live stream available, so please join us whether you're comfortable attending in person or not. We'll post the link on the day of the event.
Description: The words contained in a transcript of a qualitative research session only capture one side of a participant’s point of view: the one they choose to present to you. In this talk, you’ll learn some behaviors that often “tell” more of the intent behind words and actions, allowing you to identify potential contradictions and follow-up opportunities in the moment. This applies not only to observing participants but in how you present yourself as a moderator. No poker experience expected or required!
Our speaker: Rob Solomon is a Senior Experience Design Researcher with Truist, based in Atlanta. Previously, Rob worked at IMTC (Georgia Tech) on applications of interactive game mechanics for health, education and assessment. Rob's passion for poker has given him unique insights into how people reveal information about themselves, which he leverages in his user research work.
